Computing

The use of information and communication technology is an integral part of the National Curriculum and is a key skill for everyday life. At Latchmere School, we recognise that pupils are entitled to a structured and progressive approach to the learning of the skills needed. In order to do this, we are continually extending our expertise and our stock of hardware and software. Our ICT equipment comprises of Apple iMacs; Apple iPads; portable laptop trolleys; visualisers; video recorders and class networked computers with access to the internet.

Latchmere School aims to ensure all pupils are provided with a relevant, challenging, and enjoyable curriculum for computing: children are able to use computing as a tool to support and enhance learning across the curriculum. Children at Latchmere use computers for word processing, spreadsheets and databases, simulations, controlling and monitoring devices and coding. The school also offers opportunities for children to take part in extra-curricular activities in computing with lunch time clubs.

At Latchmere School, we believe that Computing is a vital subject which prepares children to live in a world where technology is an intrinsic part of everyday life. For this reason, we feel it is important that children are exposed to a range of computing disciplines relevant to the National Curriculum and the wider world.

Throughout the delivery of the computing curriculum, a consistent emphasis is placed on developing children’s understanding of how to use computing safely and responsibly.
