Attachment Aware School

We are delighted to share that Latchmere School has achieved the Attachment Aware Schools Bronze Award (2024/2025).
This recognition is a significant milestone on our attachment journey and reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting our pupils emotional wellbeing and the development of every child in our care.
Being 'attachment aware' means that we understand the importance of building strong, secure relationships between staff and pupils. At Latchmere, we strongly believe that these relationships form the foundation for a safe and supportive learning environment where all children feel valued, understood, and ready to learn. We know that when children feel safe and connected, they thrive - not just academically, but socially and emotionally too.
Earning the Bronze Award has involved: training from AfC Virtual School on attachment and trauma-informed practice, coaching from an Educational Psychologist, on-site whole school training in attachment and emotion coaching and the development of a whole school change project based on findings from the Attachment Aware Schools audit. As a result of this award we have increased our knowledge of attachment and emotion coaching, we have made our language more trauma informed and have adapted our practice to reflect this attachment and trauma informed approach.
This award is just the beginning. We are committed to deepening our practice and continuing our journey towards becoming a fully attachment aware and trauma-informed school and look forward to working on the Silver Award during the next academic year.Â
