Dear Parents and Carers,
My name is Alex Hill, and I am delighted to be the Chair of Governors at Latchmere School.
The governing body is proud to support the school’s strategic direction and to work closely with the leadership team to ensure the continued delivery of a high-quality education for all pupils at Latchmere. Governors play an important role in providing oversight, support, and constructive challenge to the school’s leadership, ensuring that our decisions always place the wellbeing, progress, and future success of our children at the heart of everything we do.
As a parent of two children currently attending the school, I have experienced first-hand the strong sense of community that makes Latchmere such a special place. I know how dedicated both parents and staff are to ensuring that our children feel safe, happy, and inspired during their time at school. Together, we all share the same goal: giving every child the best possible start in life and preparing them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they will need for the future.
The governing body is made up of parents and carers, school staff, and members of the local community who all bring a range of professional skills and experiences.
While we should feel justifiably proud of the achievements of Latchmere School and the positive learning environment that already exists, we believe there are exciting opportunities to strengthen and enhance the school even further.
Key priorities within the current development plan include:
· Strengthen curriculum design and implementation in writing and across all subjects to secure coherence, progression, and disciplinary understanding (Science and MFL).
· Strengthen inclusive provision and leadership of SEND, EAL, FSM, mobility and attendance to secure improved outcomes and equity.
· Continue to raise attainment in core subjects and improve fluency in phonics, reading and multiplication facts.
· Strengthen distributed leadership to drive curriculum consistency, rapid intervention, and high expectations across the school.
Alongside these priorities, the governing body will continue to ensure that safeguarding remains a central focus, and that the school maintains a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment in which every child feels valued and able to succeed.
We believe these initiatives will support Latchmere on its journey and will ensure that every child leaves Latchmere with not only strong academic foundations but also the confidence, creativity, and resilience needed to flourish in the next stage of their education and beyond.
As Chair of Governors, I will endeavour to provide regular updates to parents and carers throughout the school year so that you remain informed about the progress of these priorities and the work of the governing body.
In the meantime, if you would like to share any thoughts or ideas about how we can continue to help our school community thrive, or if you are interested in learning more about becoming a school governor, please do not hesitate to get in touch. You can contact me via email at ahill@latchmereschool.org.
Thank you for your continued support of Latchmere School.
Kind regards,
Alex Hill
