Latchmere School

Orchestra and Choir

Music is an important part of life at Latchmere, we have three very high quality choirs – Year 2, Year 3 and the main school choir. The choirs perform throughout the year in a wide variety of venues. We also have a flourishing adult choir which is open to staff, parents and friends of the school.

The school also boasts a very active orchestra.

We hold concerts in the autumn and summer terms where the choirs, orchestra, individuals and ensembles perform. Guest musicians also perform giving the children a chance to listen to and appreciate live music played professionally as well as have the chance to perform themselves.

Annual concerts in the autumn term give an opportunity for every child in the school to perform from Nursery to Year 6.

There are also other opportunities for performance during the year whether it be in a class assembly or the Year 6 show . In this way we enable the staff and children to enjoy teamwork and also to experience the thrill and discipline of performance.
Choir
Extra-curricular musical opportunities are an important part of life at Latchmere.  We have a thriving and enthusiastic choir open to all pupils in years 3-6. The choir meet weekly and sing a wide range of repertoire to perform throughout the year at a wide variety of venues such as John Lewis, The Rose Theatre, the O2 arena and local care homes.

To sign your child up for choir, please book on Parent Pay.

Orchestra

The school also boasts a very active orchestra with representation of all four sections of an orchestra! They play a range of music from classical to contemporary, and enjoy performing in concerts in the Autumn and Summer term. These concerts also provide an opportunity for some of our musicians to perform solo in front of a supportive, large audience.

Participation in the orchestra is by invitation and we normally expect children to be of Grade 1-2 standard when they start in order for them to gain the most from the experience.

If you feel that your child may be at the appropriate level to start the school orchestra, and that they would relish playing in an ensemble, please contact the school office who can direct your enquiry to the appropriate person.Â
