Pride Month

Published: 11 Jun '25

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are writing to inform you about an important and exciting initiative taking place in our school during the month of June. In recognition of Pride Month, we will be incorporating one hour-long age-appropriate lesson per class across the month to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and the unique differences that make our community vibrant and strong.

At Latchmere School, we believe that recognising Pride Month is a valuable opportunity to educate our students about the importance of diversity, empathy, and respect. This aligns with both the National Curriculum and our commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all. Through the lesson, we aim to help students develop an understanding of the significance of inclusion and the importance of celebrating differences in our community.

The lesson will be designed to suit the specific age group it is delivered to, ensuring that the learning is appropriate, sensitive, and engaging. The focus will be on themes such as kindness, respect, and understanding, with an emphasis on helping students appreciate the differences that make each person unique.

We trust that you will have confidence in our staff’s ability to pitch the learning appropriately for each year group and age bracket and the learning slides and resources are available below, should you wish to view these. We understand that families have diverse perspectives, and we want to ensure that everyone feels respected. While we encourage all students to take part in this important learning, we also respect parents' rights to withdraw their child from lessons related to Pride Month. If you would like to discuss this further or request adjustments, please contact your child’s class teacher directly. It is important to note that children do not need to be kept at home during this time, as we can make reasonable adjustments within school to accommodate these requests.

Thank you for your continued support in creating a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment for all our students.
