Physical Education and Sport

At Latchmere, we are proud of our prestigious reputation in the community and local authority. Our sports programme provides the opportunity for children to get involved at both a competitive and recreational level. Our PE lessons and extra-curricular opportunities are fully inclusive for all abilities and needs. For Children showing a particular talent in sport, there are many opportunities to represent the school in a wide range of sports at inter school level and beyond. Latchmere is proud to be consistently successful at borough events such as the annual swimming gala, cross country, football and cricket. We also actively engage with independent schools to challenge our children further.

As a PE department, we are always adapting and evolving to be at the forefront of physical educational, school sport and activity. Therefore, in the 2021-2022 school year, a decision was taken to use the ‘Getset4pe’ scheme of work. The scheme of work will enhance the progression and continuity from EYFS to Year 6 as well as in the individual unit of work for each year group. Staff will utilise the built-in assessment tools to offer individual targets to children to advance children’s learning further.

At Latchmere, we are fortunate to have a specialist PE teacher who delivers a comprehensive programme for Physical Education. This expertise enables us to become engaged in many extra-curricular activities including various sports competitions. Some of the extra-curricular clubs we offer are: tag rugby, netball, basketball, futsal, judo and cross country. We feel this enriches the curriculum we are able to offer our children. The children at Latchmere are also lucky to have their own pool and swimming teacher.

Latchmere were delighted to be the first school in Kingston Upon Thames to receive the Platinum Kitemark award in July 2019. Further to this, Latchmere also received a Healthy Schools Gold Award (highest award) in October 2020.

These awards acknowledge the excellent provision of sport available for all Children at Latchmere School.

To achieve the Healthy Schools Gold Award, we were assessed against a number of criteria including: P.E and physical activity within the school day and food education.
