The Governing Body plays a key role in helping to oversee the strategic direction of the school, working in partnership with the Headteacher, Senior Management Team and Trustees of the Latchmere Academy Trust.  The main aim of a Governing Body is to ensure the delivery of a high standard of education for all pupils in its care.

At Latchmere School, we have an active and enthusiastic Governing Body. The governors are made up of elected representatives from parents and staff and community representatives. The work of the Governing Body is varied and we are fortunate to have a vast range of experience within our team. The governors try to ensure they visit the school and participate in school events as frequently as possible. This enables governors to gain a fuller understanding of how the school works and the way in which our children are educated.

How to become a governor

There are no particular qualifications or requirements for becoming a governor, other than a willingness to give time to the role and a capacity for working with other people. If you are interested in becoming a governor at Latchmere School or if you have queries about our work, then please contact the Clerk to the Governors.

Letter from the Chair

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the Governor section of the Latchmere School website.

My name is Maurice Press and I am the new Chair of Governors.

I, as the Chair, and my fellow Governors are proud and privileged to represent the school and hope whatever we do is always in the best interests of both our students and staff.

The Latchmere Governing Body is responsible for advising the Latchmere Academy Trust regarding strategic leadership of the school and for monitoring its aims, objectives and policies.  Ms Steels manages the operation of the school on a day-to-day basis and is the Governing Body’s principal advisor.  We hold meetings once every half term and then report back to both the governors and the Trust at each meeting.

We would be delighted to answer any questions or comments you may have and we welcome any feedback you choose to make. Most importantly, I hope the whole school feel the Governors are always supportive of their wishes and are contactable at any time if needed.

Being a Governor has many responsibilities but they are easily out-weighed by the achievements of the students and the commitment of our staff.  We always welcome observers at our meetings and, from time to time, have vacancies for new Governors.  If you are interested in finding out more about the role of a governor please email us.
